Elastomers

Proven materials for reliable sealing solutions.
Elastomers are among the classic sealing materials and, thanks to their excellent rubber-like elastic properties, have been indispensable in sealing technology for decades. They offer lasting elasticity, high restoring forces and outstanding resistance to fluids and temperatures – even under demanding operating conditions.

These materials consist of synthetic rubber and other compound ingredients that are chemically cross-linked. Cross-linking ensures dimensional stability and high mechanical resilience. Unlike thermoplastic materials, elastomers must be vulcanised to retain their characteristic elastic properties. After moulding – either by injection or by inserting preforms – vulcanisation takes place within the mould, during which the plastic compound transitions to a rubber-like state. Various processes are available for vulcanisation: injection moulding (IM), compression moulding (CM), transfer moulding (TM) and extrusion.

Elastomers are particularly suitable where the highest standards are required in terms of mechanical properties, sealing performance and life-time. They are used in almost all areas of sealing technology.

Thermoplastic Elastomers (TPE)

Modern materials for innovative sealing solutions

Thermoplastic elastomers (TPE) combine the advantages of classic elastomers with those of thermoplastics, making them ideal for the sealing industry. They exhibit rubber-elastic behavior at operating temperatures but can be processed thermoplastically at higher temperatures, thus bridging the gap between thermoplastics and elastomers.
Unlike elastomers, TPEs do not require vulcanization. The material is meltable, reusable, and can be cost-effectively processed via injection molding—a decisive advantage for series production of complex seals. After cooling, the material solidifies in the mold and regains its elastic properties, ensuring the seal reliably performs its function.
Advantages of TPE in sealing applications:
  • Processing without vulcanization
  • Short cycle times in injection molding
  • Possible two-component processing
  • High dimensional accuracy and reproducibility
  • Recyclable
  • Colorability to avoid mix-ups
Thanks to their adaptable mechanical properties and excellent processability, TPEs are predestined for modern sealing solutions in automotive, sanitary, sewage & wastewater, household appliances, electrical engineering, and many other fields. They offer durable, economical, and environmentally friendly solutions with high design freedom and functional versatility.

Rubber-Metal Bonding

Rubber-metal composites combine the advantages of metal and elastomer in a single component. The metal provides stability and mechanical strength, whilst the elastomer offers flexibility and deformability.
Our product range includes composites made from steel and stainless steel combined with a wide variety of proven elastomer grades. Typical applications include oil seals and bonded seals.

The core components of a rubber-metal composite are elastomer, metal and an primer. For outdoor use, all components are adapted accordingly, for example through corrosion protection for the metal or weather-resistant elastomer compounds, to ensure permanently reliable sealing performance.
